Week one of weight watchers

So week one of my new diet (ooh what a nasty word!) has actually not been too bad. I guess I've had enough experience starting diets to know what to do now. :) My idea of eating little and often was a big success. It was around Wednesday before I even started to feel more hungry than usual. The good news is that all paid off and I lost about 1kg (2 pounds) this week! Even better, I'm already feeling like I've got more energy than I've had in absolutely ages!

Little and often

The most helpful thing I did last week was bring a morning and afternoon snack every day at work last week. I made up a butternut squash soup for the morning and a box of pineapple and rock melon for the afternoon. I used the soup when I started feeling hungry before 1pm and I ate the fruit on the way home a couple of times. Luckily work is usually so busy there's not too much time for feeling hungry.

Meaty meals

By about Wednesday I was starting to get that hungry feeling that wouldn't pass and I realised that I hadn't really had all that much meat yet that week. My husband made up a paella for Monday-Wednesday dinner which is fantastically delicious but just doesn't have the hunger killing power of a nice hunk of meat. I made up with it on Friday (when I had the day at home) with a delicious bit of salmon, a couple of roast potatoes and a plate full of veg for lunch. Felt like I'd had a really satisfying meal but was still only 5.5 points. I think I just need to remember to do that every few days until my body gets used to the diet.

Husbands birthday was a bit of a disaster

I guess the only tough part of the week diet wise was my husband's birthday. I ended up having a day off tracking that day because I couldn't face the numbers. We went to the pub for lunch, had pizza for dinner and I stole a big hunk of his birthday chocolate. My mistake was being absolutely starving by the time we got to the pub so I ordered a big plate of steak and chips rather than something a bit less calorific. I probably should have planned out what I was going to eat at both places before I went. I find it's not that hard to go and execute a plan but to choose well when I'm hungry is really hard. Oh well!

Next week

I'm going to do the morning and afternoon snack again. I think that after this week I'll only need one snack to get me through the day (probably in the afternoon) but I think it's too soon to do that yet. I'm going to make up a leek and potato soup.

I think I'm probably going to do a bento box for lunch as well because I got a heap of good salad stuff in our Abel and Cole organic box. I'm also going to try my hand at making a mushroom and bacon risotto! First time I've ever tried so it will probably take me a few goes to get it but should be fun. :)

Ganbatte, Helen! Glad your

Ganbatte, Helen! Glad your "diet" week went well. I hate that word, too: It's just Die with a T (as Garfield the cat once said). I think I'm doing OK, too, but they had cookies in the resource room at work, and I ate some! But I was also eating veg and fruit all day, so...progress? @_@
